HistoryPurakauiti was a small farming area located at the north end of Tahakopoa Bay. Locals also worked in sawmills, the largest being the Long Point sawmill. A school was established in 1898 and closed in 1960. The second school building, along with the school house, are the only indications of the settlement which remain.
