HistoryThe Ahuriri Flat- Otekura area consists of rolling hill country located between Glenoamaru and Katea 20kms south of Balclutha. Settled as a farming community, the area was once known locally as the valley of the Mac's - McDonald, McCollsmith, McLay, McIntosh, McLean, and McKenzie all lived and raised large families in the valley. Daniel McIntosh had a blacksmith business, the closest railway station was at Glenoamaru, and there were once three schools (Ahuriri 1874-1903, Ahuriri Flat 1901-1912, and Otekura 1913-1945) and two post offices (Ahuriri Flat 1872-1923, Otekura 1913-1945).
