HistoryPuerua is a small settlement about 10kms up from what was the mouth of the Clutha River at Port Molyneux. The township was located very close to Romahapa. In 1856 the first church in South Otago was built at Puerua with a school being built at Romahapa in 1858. Puerua once had a hotel, general store, blacksmith, sawmill etc, however upon the opening of the railway at Romahapa the Puerua settlement declined with Romahapa becoming the larger settlement.
