DescriptionIsaac Greene was born about 1865 in Australia to Irish parents. The family immigrated to New Zealand in the 1870s.
As a young man, Isaac travelled around Otago working mostly in the clothing trade. On 21 April 1897, he married Mary Elizabeth (Lil) Dickson, eldest daughter of Robert and Margaret Cotton. Mary was actually the daughter of Margaret Cotton via her first marriage to Thomas Dickson.
Isaac and Mary had three children, the eldest of which only made it to age 21.
Isaac for sometime operated a drapery business in Clyde Street, Balclutha which he sold to Burley and McDonald in 1903. Isaac remained on as the manager.
During the First World War, the Cotton family experienced a labour shortage on their farm Waipori Station. Isaac with his managerial experience took on the role of station manager.
By 1946, Isaac was living in Dunedin and managing R.S. Black and Sons on George Street. Mary had died 3-years previously. Isaac died in February 1952, aged 78. He is buried in Dunedin's Northern Cemetery with Mary.
