DescriptionAlexander (Alec) and John Tippet arrived in Waipori in the early 1900s having previously been at the West Coast. They worked the Golden Key claim with the Gare family.
Alec Tippet and Bob Gare were among the men who constructed the tunnel near the Waipori Sheep Station. The tunnel which runs under the Waipori to Lawrence Road was put in to try and strike the back of the O.P.Q reef. A few thousand pounds were spent on the project about 1909 or early 1910. This tunnel can still be seen today with permission.
John and Jessie Tippet had five sons.
