DescriptionRichard John (Dick) Cotton was born in 1879 to Margaret and Robert Cotton. His parents operated both the Waipori Sheep Station and the Cotton Store at Waipori.
As adults, Dick's brother partnered to run Waipori Station. However, Richard chose to focus on goldmining, the profession that had originally attracted Robert Cotton Senior to Waipori.
In 1909, Dick married Eveline Irene Lindsay (Rene). The couple had five children together.
Dick died in 1953 aged 73. He is buried in the Waipori Cemetery with daughter Lillias, who died in 1922 aged 1 year.
