DescriptionMary Loudon, born on 9 January 1865, was the daughter of Helen and Alexander Loudon. Mary and her siblings attended the Lawrence Grammar School and Lawrence District High School. Mary pursued a career as a teacher, teaching first at Lawrence. In August 1885, she took up a position to teach under Mr. Charles Kerr at Waipori School. She held this position for 12-years.
Mary was very well-respected in the Waipori community, and liked by her students. She was a talented singer and actively involved in organising community dances and socials. She was also dedicated to the Waipori Wesleyan Church.
In August 1898, Mary accepted a position as First Assistant at the Highcliffe School in Dunedin.
