DescriptionAlexander Kirkwood Junior was born 2 January 1875. Alexander was the eldest of Alexander Snr and Agnes nee Reid's 10 surviving children.
Alexander's father was a goldminer, and as such, he was raised at Waipori. He, and all but the youngest two of his siblings, attended Waipori School. Alexander left at aged 10 to go rabbiting. Alexander's father struggled financially, and he may have left school to help support the family.
At aged 25, Alexander moved to New South Wales, Australia where he had employment as a dredgeman. By this stage, he had extensive experience in this role at Waipori. He later operated a newly invented dredge in Porepunkah and Bright north east Victoria.
Alexander married Muriel Evelyn Beach who was on a working holiday with her family in Australia. The couple settled at Chiltern, Victoria and had three children.
