DescriptionBob Caffell was in residence at Waipori in 1867. He was known for his gruff voice, and was recalled as a jolly, short man with whiskers.
It is thought that Bob was a shepherd on Cotton's Waipori Station. He kept collies, first registering his dogs in 1868. Like many in Waipori, Bob also dabbled in mining on the side.
In 1874, Bob was shepherding at Lee Flat Station.
John Lomas, who owned a butchery and store up Lammerlaw Creek, often gave Bob work. When John shifted to Dunrobin in the late 1870s, Bob followed.
He later returned to Waipori Station. In 1882, Bob was appointed a ranger for the Waipori Commonage collecting fees for de-pasturing stock and dog registrations. He resigned from this position in 1887.
Bob left Waipori to shepherd for the Nichol's at Abbortsford Station. In 1907, he was living at Evans Flat, still working as a shepherd.
Bob died in 1939, at Edievale, aged 79. He is buried in the Crookston Cemetery.
