Bob ventured into mining in 1897, when he was granted a race #954 25/97 to carry 15 heads of water for one mile from Bulgers Creek, at the junction with the Waitahuna River, to the Copper mine shaft race formerly held by the Waipori Mining Company.
Bob continued his mining interests into the early 1900s, however he primarily farmed Waipori Station with his brothers until his death.

Bob died in 1950, and Elfrida in 1966. They are buried together in the Waipori Cemetery.
