DescriptionDavid, son of John and Isabella Gare, was born in 1882. He grew up at Waipori where his father was a miner. In 1893, when David was 11, his mother died.
David followed his father into the goldmining business.
In March 1906, David broke his leg while cycling home from Waipori. He was attended to at the Tuapeka Hospital.
On 19 February 1913, David married Ethel May Gillion at the Anglican Church, Waipori. Ethel was the younger sister of David's cousin George Gare's wife, Jane nee Gillion.
The couple had five children. The first was stillborn in 1914, Jessie 1915, Dorothy 1917, Reginald (Wee Reg) 1920-1923, and Mervyn 1923-1941.
After his mining days, David worked in the brewing industry. He died aged 85 in 1968. Ethel died in 1976 aged 87.
