In 1913, she married her brother-in-law's cousin, David Hunter Gare.
Ethel and David had five children; a still born in 1914, Jessie May 1915, Dorothy 1917, Reginald David 1920-1923, and Mervyn 1923.
Ethel died in 1976 aged 87.
