DescriptionSamuel Stewart Gare was born in 1886 to John and Isabella Gare. It appears he was named for John's mining business partner, Samuel Stewart. Samuel grew up at Waipori.
He served as a rifleman with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade J Company.
In 1923 Samuel married Jessie Wyness Mitchell. They had a daughter, Irene (Rene), in 1924.
