DescriptionThe Johnson family, originally from the Shetlands, lived in Waipori between 1871 and 1880. James William known as William, head of the family, worked as miner. He died in 1888 aged just 44 years.
William, his wife Andrina Ross nee Henderson, and their two eldest sons immigrated to New Zealand in the early 1860s. They lived in Dunedin prior to moving to Waipori. It appears that the family returned to Dunedin in the 1880s.
