HistoryWarepa, 13kms from Baclutha, was one of the earliest settlements in South Otago. Low-lying tussock allowed for farming while the bush clad hills made for sawmills to operate in the area. A Presbyterian church was built in 1868, and this structure was replaced in 1966. The Warepa School was first built in 1858. In 1944 the Kaihiku School almagmated with Warepa. Today the Warepa School continues to educate primary aged children from both the Kaihiku and Warepa areas.
