HistorySituated between Maclennan and Tahakopa, Stuarts had a small railway station which was intended for the purpoose of loading timber. It also supported the transport of goods to and from residents in the area. The school across the Tahakopa River at Latta Brothers Sawmill while original named Papatowai, was later renamed as Stuarts School. Following the closure of Latta Brothers Mill in early 1940s, Stuarts School closed in 1945 with only four students remaining, these pupils being Don and Les Jenks, Lester Logan, and Del Hay.
