HistoryImmediately south of Lake Waihola, Clarendon was associated with the Milburn lime quarries. The Ewings Phosphate Company, formed in 1902 and mined phosphate rock in the area. However, the quanity and quality of phosphate was lacking and the business ceased operations in 1922. The company's former building remains alongside Stae Highway 1. Clarendon had a post office from 1876 to 1878 and 1906 to 1938.
