HistoryThe township of Waihola is situated on the shore of Lake Waihola 40kms south west of Dunedin. The township first sprung up when a jetty was built for vessels transporting goods up from the Taieri River. A road from Lower Taieri Ferry reached Waihola in 1857. A school was established in 1859 and in 1996 this combined with Milburn School. Today Waihola is a popular holiday spot and increasingly people who work in Dunedin are living in Waihola and commuting into town.
