HistoryTuapeka Flat is located in the Tuapeka River Valley 7kms from Lawrence. George Murray, a farmer, arrived in the area prior to the goldrush but the area was quickly settled by miners. Settler Francis Fear is remembered for his insistence rergarding the importation of gorse and blackberry seeds. Into the early 20th century the area experienced a lot of conflict between farmers and goldminers. Nowadays the residents of Tuapeka Flat are part of the Lawrence community with only a few residents remaining.
